04:28 am - free old computer and monitor / or recommend where to donate?
I have a very old computer that I have decided to get rid of because it's silly to let it keep taking up space I don't have to spare (it's not even worth $5 because it's so old, but it works so it feels wrong to just throw away).

Rather than it becoming fodder for a landfill, I am wondering if anyone has a good use for it or knows someplace that needs it. If I give it Goodwill or Salvation Army stores they will just dump it in the garbage (like they do with any un-sellable items you have been giving them, with holes, worn, old, etc - you thought they use them? what do you think the four massive dumpsters out back are for?)

Here's what it is:
14" SVGA CRT that can go to 1024x768 (it was decent in it's time)
low profile proprietary desktop case (means it can't be upgraded/reused)
80486 80mhz AMD cpu (yes 486, ie. before pentium equal to a pentium 50mhz)
80 megabyte (yes MB) hard drive
It runs windows 3.1 which is installed and runs.

You can actually hookup an external modem and use an old browser.
If you are a linux guru I guess it could be used somehow in that way.

I'll deliver it free to any charity/501.3c or similar on Tuesday
otherwise available to someone who can pickup on my weird schedule Tuesday.

10:27 am - cops shooting dogs in New Oleans
Some cops are shooting dogs in New Orleans, basically because they think they can get away with it - not because they dogs are showing any signs of being in fatal pain, or diseased etc.

(warning this might be hard to watch for some animal lovers, ie. most of us, sorry)

11:22 pm - can you believe they are being this obvious?
In case you missed it:
Companies with direct ties to Bush, Cheney and FEMA administration are being handed some of the first disaster relief and reconstruction contracts, including two major corporate clients of President George W. Bush's former campaign manager and Halliburton subsidiary Kellogg Brown & Root (Vice President Dick Cheney is a former head of Halliburton).

Unbelievable nerve.

(and if you thought this video was fake, nope it's real)
